The Media Development Center – Birzeit University, in cooperation with the Arab-European Association for Communication Researchers, AREACORE, organized an online symposium entitled Digital Media: Education, Rights and Practice, with the participation of experts from Jordan, Sweden, Egypt, Oman and Germany, and several Palestinian universities. This symposium, aiming to define future steps in the process of cooperation between Arab and European researchers, will be the beginning of many activities that discuss important topics to ensure a safe and effective digital transformation in the Palestinian media.
The Academic Supervisor of the Digital Media Diploma Program at the Media Development Center, Saleh Masharqa, explained the educational curriculum, units and courses of this diploma.
Dr. Soheir Othman from Al-Ahram Canadian University in Cairo presented her university’s experience in qualifying media students to enter the digital age.
Bayan Al-Tal from the Jordan Media Institute gave an explanation about the institute’s programs to spread media education.
Anna Nystrom from the Media Development Office at Swedish Radio reviewed the results of research studies that were conducted in Palestine in cooperation with the Media Development Center.
Dr. Abdel-Razek Al-Natsheh reviewed the importance of data in the press, stressing the urgent need for data journalism.
Nadim Al-Nashif from the Arab Center for the Development of Social Media reviewed digital rights, as basic human rights, and presented examples of violations to which these rights are exposed in Palestine.
At the end the host of the symposium, Imad Al-Asfar, stressed the importance of digitization not at the expense of credibility and ethics of the profession, the need for an advanced legal environment capable of organizing the spread of digital and social media, and the urgent need to expand media and informational education programs.

وقدمت الدكتورة سهير عثمان من جامعة الأهرام الكندية في القاهرة تجربة جامعتها في تأهيل طلبة الإعلام لدخول العصر الرقمي
وقدمت بيان التل من معهد الإعلام الأردني شرحاً عن برامج المعهد لنشر التثقيف الإعلامي
واستعرضت آنا نيستروم من مكتب تطوير الإعلام في الراديو السويدي نتائج الدراسات البحثية التي جرت في فلسطين بالتعاون مع مركز تطوير الإعلام
واستعرض الدكتور عبد الرازق النتشة أهمية البيانات في الصحافة، مشدداً على الحاجة القصوى لصحافة البيانات، معطياً أمثلة من واقع التعامل الإعلامي الحالي مع جائحة كورونا
واستعرض نديم الناشف من المركز العربي لتطوير الإعلام الاجتماعي الحقوق الرقمية، كونها حقاً من
الحقوق الإنسانية الأساسية، وقدم نماذج عن الانتهاكات التي يتعرض لها هذا الحق في فلسطين
وفي ختام اللقاء اكد عماد الأصفر الذي ادار الندوة على أهمية ألا تكون الرقمنة على حساب المصداقية
وأخلاقيات المهنة، وضرورة وجود بيئة قانونية متطورة قادرة على تنظيم انتشار الإعلام الرقمي والاجتماعي، والحاجة الماسة إلى التوسع في برامج التربية الإعلامية والمعلوماتية
